O Ano de 1986 - A Gigante dos Arcades Entra no Mercado de Games

De olho no promissor mercado de videogames domésticos, a gigante japonesa dos fliperamas, a Sega, decidiu finalmente lançar um console em 1984 para competir com o NES e o MSX. Intitulado de Mark III, este foi a base do que viria a ser o Master System, que chegou nos EUA em 1986 com um visual moderno e agressivo, gráficos melhores do que os da concorrência e um poderoso chip de som.

Neste mesmo ano, o NES dominava 90% do mercado de videogames na América, e o restante era dividido entre o Atari 7800 e o Intellivision. A estratégia da Sega era abocanhar uma parte da grande fatia da Nintendo, e a empresa até mesmo fez um acordo de licenciamento do Master System com a Tonka Toys, na esperança de obter uma melhor distribuição do console através das diversas cadeias de lojas dos EUA. Mas isso ajudou só um pouco, faltavam jogos de qualidade, e o departamento de marketing da distribuidora de brinquedos, infelizmente, não entendia nada de videogames, lançando jogos ruins no mercado e deixando os poucos bons lançamentos de lado.

E ainda havia um problema bem maior: praticamente todas as softhouses da época já tinham contratos assinados com a Nintendo e estavam produzindo para o NES. A Nintendo impôs uma cláusula contratual que exigia das produtoras exclusividade no desenvolvimento de jogos para o NES; cláusula esta que foi investigada pelo departamento de justiça americano sob a acusação de monopólio e relaxada alguns anos mais tarde.

Com isso, no seu início, o Master System ficou a mercê dos jogos da Sega, que brigavam duro contra Mario, Zelda, Castlevania, Megaman e companhia. E ainda havia as conversões de arcades que, por sinal, eram muito decentes.

No Brasil, o Master System fez muito sucesso (eu que o diga). Ele foi lançado por aqui em 1989, e foi até pouco tempo atrás comercializado pela Tec Toy. O console obteve bastante sucesso em solo tupiniquim graças à competência da Tec Toy em fazer lançamentos de qualidade e dar suporte adequado aos usuários. Mais tarde, o preço baixo, alguns jogos exclusivos e os jogos nacionais foram o seu maior atrativo (isso mesmo que você leu, pela primeira vez na história, uma indústria brasileira produzia jogos exclusivos para uma plataforma de videogame).

O Master System era um console muito bonito por fora, e relativamente poderoso por dentro. O seu controle era uma cópia do usado no NES, sem a mesma precisão, mas cumpria seu papel. Tinha como acessórios uma pistola, o óculos 3D, o Rapid Fire e alguns joysticks específicos.

Acessórios I

Apesar da incursão de vários tropeços do console, não podemos esquecer que a Sega inovou ao ter lançado um periférico muito interessante e avançado para o Master System: os óculos 3D. Através de 2 visores de cristal líquido que piscavam seqüencialmente, os jogadores tinham a sensação espacial de profundidade no jogo.

Temos também uma possante e bela pistola, através da qual muitos de nossos inimigos eram postos por terra e a diversão posta lá em cima.

Acessórios III
Temos ainda o importantíssimo "rapid fire", através dele as coisas ficavam muito mais fáceis, já que esse acessório dava um turbo nos tiros e golpes.

Em 1988, já em decadência nos EUA e Japão, a Sega recomprou os direitos de distribuição do Master System da Tonka Toys, e decidiu lançar alguns jogos de qualidade para o console. Aqui no Brasil, o console aguentou firme e forte até meados dos anos 90, quando foram lançados o Master System II e o III, onde mudavam a aparência do console e os jogos que vinham na memória do sistema. Mas apesar dos esforços , já era tarde para ele, e o seu sucessor, o Genesis/Mega Drive, estaria aportando muito em breve por aqui, fazendo com que o velho batalhador de 8 bits descansasse para sempre. :cry: ;)
