For now, though, we're satisfied knowing that there's more than meets the eye here. This is a bold production compared to the developer’s previous effort, the misunderstood
Entwined, and that somewhat surprised us. PixelOpus has said that its ambition is to make imaginative and beautiful games with heart, and it’s comfortably living up to its mantra with this attempt.
Concrete Genie Releases October 8, We Go Hands-On With Its Action Game Twist

It's not all just painting and imagination, sometimes you have to hit things with some painful and painterly magic.
It will be interesting to see how the final game manages to balance this escalation in gameplay style, but it did somewhat assuage fears I had concerning whether the game could get repetitive after the first hour. With just a few months until release, Concrete Genie is shaping to be a fascinating addition to Sony’s software portfolio.
Concrete Genie hands-on preview: Where the wild genies are

Just a few months away from its release date, Shacknews goes hands-on with Sony and Pixelopus' upcoming artistic adventure, Concrete Genie.
As the game's themes might imply, Concrete Genie is a gorgeous piece of work. While the genies themselves utilize traditional animation styles, Ash and the port town of Denska utilize Claymation techniques to create a different-looking 3D model that stands out when juxtaposed with the genies. If this is all that Concrete Genie has to offer, it stands to be an incredible effort.
Concrete Genie: Time to Put This PS4 Exclusive on Your Radar - IGN

Sony's next PS4 exclusive Concrete Genie is shaping up to be a heartwarming, serene, and fun painting adventure.
I’m excited to see how all of Concrete Genie’s facets come together and if they can remain engaging throughout its story. The opening sets up some fun, engrossing, and unique gameplay opportunities, alongside a world brimming with potential. And I hope, in full, Concrete Genie’s tale proves to be as consistently heartwarming and serene as its opening hour, and as surprising in its depth as the third-act twist indicated.
Concrete Genie preview: a jaw-droppingly beautiful game with a poignant message - VG247

I was worried about Concrete Genie’s depiction of bullying until the main character was pushed to the ground and hit hard in the gut.
It’s a magical space to be inside and there’s much more to it than what I got to see. Remarkably, the VR mode will be included with the main game at its humble price of £24.99 when it releases on October 9. I can’t wait to step back inside and cleanse my soul.
Preview: Painting happy little trees in ‘Concrete Genie’ reminds me of Bob Ross

It’s more akin to laying out art rather than actual painting, but “Concrete Genie” makes players feel like they’re actually making something as they graffiti the dilapidated…
Although I thought most of the game will focus on exploration, “Concrete Genie” does have some combat elements. During the campaign, players will run across Dark Genies that cause havoc in the real-world. That forces Ashe to use special abilities like the power to skate on paint to chase and battle the creatures.
This adds a more active element that breaks up the puzzle-filled exploration. It’s gameplay addition that takes some adjustment but it gives “Concrete Genie” a dose of visceral action. It acts as a counterweight to a project that taps in a player’s inner artist and draws it out.
