"Thus there is no such thing battery won't degrade. Even at "room" temperature of 20 degrees it would lose 20% per year just because you keep the battery fully charged so that it can be used anytime.
This is also precisely the reason i am reluctant to get the iPhone.
Going by the chart above, when your laptop temperature is 40 degrees, and it is 100% charged, and u are running from A/C, doing so for one year would cause the battery life to drop to 65%. That is like from 3hours to 2 hour . And there many other factors that affect battery life as well. 40 degrees is only slightly warmer than Singapore's obscenely high ambient temperature of 33+degrees even at night.
LI-ION/Li-PO batteries will EXPLODE or BLOAT when overcharged, this is different to Nimh or Nicd batteries that can endure slow and small amount of overcharge and actually perform better. Thus the performance degrade is not due to the laptop charging the battery even when the battery is full. Doing so will just make a pretty explosion on your lap.
thus, when you are not using the battery at home, store it in a cool area of your room at 40%-60% charge, when you want to use then charge it to 100% before bringing it out.
Of course, there are some who prefer to just leave the batteries in because they find this too troublesome. Some of my friends are like this. According to them laptop batteries are "cheap" anyway!
So.. to each his own. "
