The Recon Update - Patch Notes
5566c3a73d23eaf58db9e42910c8b32ccb677f81.png

The Recon Update is here with some smaller additions and adjustments to the world of Östertörn! This one is intended to improve some of Generation Zero’s mid-game features and experiences.

We’ve also got quite a bit in store for the rest of this year, some of which was originally intended to be within this update, but due to the size and complexity of some of the new features and content, we had to move these forward from the Recon Update in favor of a more robust and meaningful release to follow. We’ll have more words on that in coming Dev Letters and other communications, but for now, let’s get to the core of what’s incoming for Generation Zero!

2f60b573ca6554ea7f5d72465346ae874bd83269.png

Crafting has been a post-release addition to the game, and has up to this point, received only periodic attention. This is the start of some adjustments to crafting, apparel, etc. that we believe will help create a more engaging, meaningful experience for players that enjoy this element of the Resistance!
  • Rivals now drop apparel schematics in a more functional way: quality levels will be dropped in sequence. For example, if you only have a Quality 2 schematic, the next drop of that type can only be a Quality 3 schematic, and so on. This was done to make the experience a bit more understandable for everyone, and subsequently, relieve a problem of having gaps in a schematic line which players could not use.
  • The stat effects of apparel schematics are roughly double overall, but some might fall a little above or below that. This is dependent on how they “scale” into the overall experience for players, as some might have been too powerful/imbalanced.
Southcoast Control Points

For those of you that are enjoying raiding FNIX bases, we’ve also added 4 more control points to the Southcoast region!

64646a3eef119cdf98cf21fb4f25aa66bc21d8a8.png

As we continue to welcome new players to the world of Östertörn, we also continue to improve their first experience with the story, adding more VO and world design elements to improve the next line of missions in the Archipelago region with the Vesslan Bunker Warboard Missions. These include: “Calling For Help,” “Over and Out,” “First Contact,” “Beachhead,” & “Another Castle”

Players can now have a more anchoring and cohesive experience with these improvements, with a better understanding of the story as well as their surroundings.

Additional Tweaks & Improvements
  • Quantity is now displayed in the HUD when picking up loot
  • Increased the damage per shot and decreased the fire rate for the Kotenok and S21 to make them feel more like DRMs
  • Increased damage per shot for the AT-WAD to compensate for the small magazine
  • The weapon wheel now displays used-up items as grayed out in the weapon wheel; picking up more of the “remembered” item will automatically place it in the previous slot
  • Bad luck modifiers added to experimental weapon loot; this means that the chance of getting them increase if you have not gotten one over a number of attempts
  • Credits screen is updated to reflect the current team composition
  • Vehicles now use the same movement input as walking; this means that they now will rebind as you rebind the walking keys

Dangerous Experiments - Patch Notes
c5a5e2653b98e3585ed0b9a17c0fd8849012a453.png

Hello Everyone,

We’re happy to bring you our latest update to Generation Zero, Dangerous Experiments! This update will do precisely what it says, to bring you new dangerous top-secret military plunders, as well as a whole lot more to make Östertörn even better.

Let’s start with what you’ve all been talking about; the new Experimental Weapons! The Resistance has been really nifty this year with both new weapons and tactical equipment, and to end the year on a high note, they’ve now managed to salvage three brand-new top secret experimental weapons for you to start using. These weapons will have a chance to drop as all other experimental ones by beating Rivals, Reapers, and completing Base Defense missions. But enough talk about the Resistance; let’s take a look at what they’ve put together!

The Experimental .44 Magnus - The Shrapnel Gun

Shred your enemies to pieces with the Experimental .44 Magnus! This canon will blast straight through your enemies and materials to create a shotgun-like blast behind your target, surprising any foe that might be behind with its deadly shrapnel blast. Great for crowd control!

The Experimental KVM 89 - Thermal Machine Gun

It’s getting hot in here; the KVM 89 just got an experimental alloy upgrade! At low temperatures, the alloy has terrible performance; it is inaccurate and inefficient. But when the heat is on, and the temperature rises, the barrel alloy performs exceptionally well, giving you extreme accuracy, efficiency, and damage. Be careful, though; you do not want to overheat it!

The Experimental Älgstudsare - The Artillery Rifle

As you fire the bullet from the Experimental Älgstudsare, it is covered by a slow-burning coating, slowing the bullet down a bit but completely changing its behavior. The longer the bullet stays in the air before it hits something, the higher the energy build-up of the coated shell. At short ranges, it does minor damage, but as the travel time of the bullet increases, so does the damage. A true Resistance fighter makes this weapon exceptionally lethal by hitting targets that are more than 100 meters away!

581d20d375cf003d723ab000a3e262bf92d263ae.png

Tomas, one of our Game Designers, has this to say about the new experimental weapons: “We know that many of you appreciate realistic depictions of real-world firearms. We also acknowledge that there are many of you that enjoy a moderate dose of sci-fi. Thus, we decided to introduce more experimental weapons to the game. Top secret, military, prototype weapons that balance in-between realism and fiction.

Make the most out of these weapons by leaning into their experimental nature. Conduct your own experiments in the field to figure out how to use them efficiently. If unsure where to start, read the weapon description to get a general idea of its function.

Want to turn the experimental up to 11? Try combining these weapons with experimental ammo and see what happens.

These have been very interesting to develop, and we hope you have as much fun using them as we had making them!”

North Coast Collectibles

Time to go on a hunt again; a new collectible set has been added to Östertörn! Bringing you 9 new war figurines and a strategic map to go with them, these collectibles are spread all across the North Coast for you to find. If you know your way around Östertörn well enough and manage to find them all, you’ll be treated with a deeper understanding of what really happened as the Soviets came to Östertörn!

3668647e4924afeecbdc280c427b0941eff861fd.png

Amanda, our Mission designer, adds: “With these collectibles, we wanted to give some more information about why the Soviets came to Östertörn. What goals do they have in Östertörn, and what hardships they met as they arrived. The narrative is focused on the experiences of different individuals among the Soviet forces. Through these soldiers’ eyes, we were able to give a new perspective on what’s happening in Östertörn and how it is to live in this dystopian war between machines. We hope that you will enjoy the stories and the pretty figurines that come with them!”

New Schematic Tree

Crafting schematics will now be unlocked in an entirely new way! Previously, when you found them hidden throughout the world, you will now be able to unlock them through the Schematics tree. Five new paths, each allowing you to purchase Schematics with its own currency of points; each currency earned by crafting items or completing specific gameplay. Additionally, where the Schematics previously could be found in the world, there are now new pickups that will give you Schematic Points and XP to help you jumpstart your progression! And don’t worry, if you have already picked up a Schematic out in the world, it will be unlocked for you already.

“One of the pain points of crafting in the past has been unlocking the Schematics. Particularly for newer players, having only a small number of Schematics unlocks stops them from taking full advantage of the system, and there was no clear path to unlock more. Now with the Schematic Tree, unlocking schematics becomes much more straightforward and gives players more agency over which Schematics they unlock first. We hope this lets more players craft what they want and, in turn, can play how they want by crafting the ammo/consumables they most enjoy using.” our Senior Systems Designer, Matthew, comments.

Crafting Improvements

Along with the addition of the Schematics Tree, you can now craft 17 consumables that you couldn’t craft before! To make it more intuitive for the player where to find the materials to craft items, we’ve also made it so they can be found more predictably from logical sources. Wondering where these materials can be found? It's now explained in the description of the craftable item!

Talking about recycling, you can now see ahead of time what recycling an item would actually give you back.

And finally, you can now tag items used to craft to keep track of what you're looking for and see when you’ve found the right thing.

“These last several patches have all included improvements to crafting, and this is the next piece of the puzzle. Crafting is more useful than before, giving you access to more items and making it easier to seek out the resources you need. We hope you enjoy the crafting improvements and look forward to hearing what you think of it!” says Matthew.

Performance Updates

There are not only new things introduced to the game with this update, but we’ve also taken a look at how the game performs and how we can improve that for you players. Here’s a short rundown from our Gameplay Programmer, Giulio:

Memory optimization: “Now, the game should use less memory; this should help the players on earlier console versions to experience much fewer crashes while playing, especially in very big cities. This is a step in the right direction, and we’re constantly working to improve this to prevent crashes while roaming with vehicles.

FPS boost: “We worked on improving the CPU workload in FPS-heavy situations like chaotic fights and roaming in big cities. This should ensure the player a smoother experience, especially on Gen 8 consoles.”

Streaming time improvements: “The game should be able to stream certain big areas faster now, resulting in less loading time and fewer graphic artifacts when moving fast.”

“All of the above was done without reducing the graphic quality or touching the rendering pipeline of the game. This means that the graphic of the game isn't changed and still remains amazing, but also that players on PC that were GPU bound won't see any improvement unless they reduce the graphic settings.”

Farmland Improvements

The Farmlands has gotten a little retouch! With the New Dawn Update, we introduced 12 new Control Points to the Farmland. Now, we’ve taken a stab at three of them to offer a more varied experience and expand on the narrative a bit. Look out for these changes:

Floda Control Point - This one has turned into a Community grown garden with allotment garden plots used by the locals in the past. Post-cataclysm, this location has been used by the Resistance as a source of food production, and now players can set up their base in this garden to protect the potatoes.

Broängen Dirt Track Control Point - This one used to be a regular farm field. Now it has changed into a Dirt track for motorbike riders. Within the build area for the Control point, there are also opportunities for some stunt riding.

Överby Control Point - Located south of the Airfield where there used to be a farm field where Machines and the Swedish military had battled each other. This narrative has been expanded upon, and 2 lines of defensive trenches have been dug out around the Control Point. The first line has been overrun, and the second one is more fortified and acts as a second line of defense.

Have you been to the places with apples?

Beneath a growing tree

The apples are placed.
But can you see their beauty?
It is time to feel.

The first line has been overrun, and the second one is more fortified and acts as a second line of defense.

The apples are placed.
But can you see their beauty?
It is time to feel.

(image: gz_patch26-trailer-thumbnail_1920x1080_v01_update.png)

Good day, Survivors!

In the last Dev Letter[generationzero.com], we explained why we are taking a bit longer than usual to bring out this new Update for Generation Zero. In short, we wanted to give our Dev Team more time to thoroughly test what we were working on as well as fix the issues that were found.
Now, we’re fast approaching the end of this new Quality Assurance period and are ready to lock in a release date.

Patch 26, the Tactical Response Update, will be released on all platforms on the 25th of May, 2023!

Once more, thank you for your patience while we were working towards giving this update the polish it deserves!
We see your continued support across all of our social media channels and we greatly appreciate having you at our side as we release new and exciting content for Generation Zero.

Speaking of content, let’s talk a bit about what’s in this new update!

Procedural Missions
These missions are a new way for both newer and veteran players to throw a wrench in the machines’ works and earn some sweet loot!
Once a week, a new procedural mission will be unlocked and playable for all players.
At the moment, there are three types of missions with varying difficulty levels and rewards with more types coming in later updates. They can spawn in different locations all over the map, so keep a watch out!
At release, these missions will focus on sabotaging the machines in their operations. You’ll take out integral parts of their infrastructure and steal important resources! But watch out, these key points will be well-guarded.
We’re glad to be able to give players more things to do on a regular basis!

Tactical Equipment Pack 2
After we buffed the items in the first Equipment DLC we released, players were happy with what it provided, but they had more ideas for fun and useful equipment we could put in the game, so we did!
This premium DLC will contain five new pieces of equipment to tailor your playstyle and give you even more options to approach a fight.
One of them will give you a whole new perspective in approaching a battle!
Over the next couple of days, we will reveal the items in this DLC one by one on our social media, so be sure to follow our Twitter account and join our Discord server[discord.gg] to get all the details!

Lots of bug fixes
On top of polishing the new content released with this update, we also got around to fixing a lot of crashes, multiplayer connection issues and AI behavior. And that’s not all! Here are some of the other things we’ve fixed:
The mission “Building Blocks” has received several fixes to progress blockers that were preventing players from completing the quest.
The “Homeward Bound” challenge tree works as intended again.
Lastly, we know how much you love your Tylöveden Home Bases, so in case you haven’t started your game since before the February 2023 Update: You can do so without being afraid of losing it after this update.

As for those who have already lost their base to this bug in the last three months:
We currently have no systems in place that would allow us to reimburse the lost materials to each of you. We know you’re frustrated about the loss of your hard earned resources, so we’ll keep looking into our possibilities in adding a way to give you back at least part of what you lost, but that will take more time. Thank you for your patience.

Quality of Life
We’re also making some quality of life changes to make certain aspects of the game more fun and easy to complete.
For example, the Vintovka will get some bad luck protection as well as being added to the Wolf’s loot pool in order to make it more easily accessible to players!
Also, resources can now be pulled from the Plundra when crafting.

Coming Soon!
These are just a small assortment of the changes made in the Tactical Response Update.
You’ll be able to read the full details in the Patch Notes, which we aim to release one day ahead of the update, so you have ample time to read through them and make plans for your first session after it drops!

Of course we know that this update is rather slim in terms of new content added compared to previous releases.
This is because we put a lot of effort into “Quality over quantity” and also because we’re focusing a lot of resources on one of the coolest additions to the game since its release, a feature that will be unveiled after this update has been released!
No, it’s not a new story DLC or another island; we know that many of you have been asking for one! However, we want to focus on improving the existing game that we have on our hands.
We’re looking forward to talking more about our future plans when the time comes!

Speaking of future plans:
A new public roadmap is still very much being worked on, but since the extended development cycle with this new update is experimental, we have to be really careful when locking in dates and future trajectories. Now that the Tactical Response Update is on the doorstep, we’re hoping to finish and publish the public roadmap soon.

Until then, stay safe out there and take down some machines for us!
Cheers,
The Generation Zero Dev Team

Tactical Response Update - Patch Notes

Greetings, Survivors!
The day has finally come: The Tactical Response Update is upon us.

Procedural Missions
With the Procedural Missions, we’re introducing something we’re thrilled about:
A way to deliver missions to all players on a weekly basis that, through certain randomized aspects, ensures that no two players will play exactly the same mission (unless they’re playing together, of course).
It also allows us to expand on this concept and add more mission types to the mix in future updates, offering both new and experienced players a fresh mission every week.
Right now, we’re launching this new feature with three different missions, one of which will spawn anywhere in the hosting player’s world as soon as they start their game.

  • Anomalous signal
A strange signal has been picked up coming from somewhere on the island. Investigating it, players find that a malfunctioning machine is calling in beacons.
  • Repair station removal
An old army repair station for the machine prototype field tests has been found. Since this could still be used by the machines to repair and refuel, it’s best if it is disabled. There might even be some good stash of resources left there!
  • FNIX outpost sabotage
Reports have come in about new, high value FNIX outposts being spotted around the island. These outposts are great places to scavenge for resources, but more importantly, sabotaging them will help keep FNIX from taking over!

The individual missions take between 10 and 20 minutes to complete and of course offer a reward in the form of some sweet loot.

Building Blocks Voiceover
The “Building Blocks” mission has been updated with voice over conversations between Pontus and Therese! While the mission remains the same, new players will get to hear new conversations and radio chatter between the two characters as they work their way through the mission.

Tactical Equipment Pack 2
Expand your arsenal with these five finely crafted pieces of guerrilla equipment. Used to spy, scout, distract, or destroy, the contents of this premium DLC provides players of all playstyles with something new to enhance their combat effectiveness or just to have some fun!
The Pack contains:
  • Toy Car Lure
A modified RC car with a radio strapped on top. Once placed on the ground, this car will drive away from you at top speed, with its radio at maximum volume. This lure is great for drawing enemies away from you in a sticky situation.
  • Sensory Jammer
The sensory jammer creates a specially tuned EM field when it is turned on. This field interferes with the senses of any machine in range, making the player practically invisible.
  • Hacking Dart
A lightweight lawn dart modified with a magnet (to stick to machines) and a contact hack device. The dart is built to be thrown quite far and accurately, allowing you to hit enemies with it from relative safety. Once attached, the device disrupts the friend-or-foe identification system of the machine it is attached to, causing it to attack any other machine on the battlefield. The effect lasts until the device’s battery runs out.
  • Remote-Controlled Tick
This modified Tick has had its navigation system overridden, allowing it to be controlled via an RC car transmitter. For good measure, a homemade pipe-bomb has also been attached to it. This allows you to directly control the Tick, sending it into the midst of unsuspecting machines to scout them out and blow them up!
  • Portable Homing Turret
This portable turret is a potent weapon against both ground and airborne targets alike. It fires small, guided rocket propelled grenades in salvos of 3. These guided munitions lock on to any nearby machine, meaning nothing is safe when one of these turrets is active.
Along with the base amount of each equipment that is added to your Storage Box, you of course also get the blueprints needed to craft more of them. What’s stopping you from unleashing an army of RC Toy Cars on the Machines? Absolutely nothing.
Are you ready to deal with the Machine threat in never before seen ways?

Quality of Life improvements
  • The Vintovka has been added to the Wolf’s loot table as well as the Firebird’s. Also, there is now a form of Bad Luck Protection to make sure you get it after a certain amount of tries! Happy hunting.
  • The emergency broadcast sound that some TVs make has been adjusted to a quieter sound on a different wavelength to reduce the chance of triggering tinnitus in players. Please let us know if you still experience tinnitus in any part of the game so we can continue to improve!
Bug Fixes

  • Materials used for crafting but stored in the Plundra used to be displayed as available for crafting, but couldn’t be used until transferred to the player’s inventory. Crafting will automatically access your Plundra storage as well.

  • Fixed clients being able to start Base Defense missions in someone else’s world

  • An Invitation Mission - Fixed mission progress transferring incorrectly between client and host

UI
  • [Skins] - Sometimes weapons skins preview screen could break if a gun has a non-default mag or barrel installed. They now display correctly
  • Vesslan Warboard was missing the "Building Blocks" mission for some players when interacting with it for the first time. It’s now back!
  • The Chat Box no longer overlaps with the Warboard UI
  • Fixed the Crosshair reappearing when opening the weapon wheel while on a bike or bicycle
  • The Resistance Heavy Bow charge meter is now visible again!
  • DLC showcase now updates correctly when navigating the menu
  • [Community reported][Tubular Vanity Pack] - "Cheer" emote no longer shows up twice in the player’s menu

VFX
  • [Tactical Equipment Pack] Molotov cocktail AoE damage no longer expires before the visual effect ends

World
  • Players can now shoot through the windows of sheds.
  • Fixed missing collision on part of a wall in Kaseberg

Known Issues

Playstation
  • The game sometimes crashes when firing an Experimental AG4 at machines
  • Using the Small EMP Cell can rarely break the first-person model

Gameplay
  • [Resistance Bow] - Explosive Arrows do not deal damage to FNIX Outpost Generators
  • Host might not see the player character of the client when the client is riding a motorbike
  • Turrets in FNIX bases sometimes don’t play their explosion effect when being destroyed

Equipment and Weapons
  • Some Throwables don’t last as long as they should after being thrown
  • Reload animation for Vintovka 1891 in multiplayer is always the full reload one

UI
  • UI screens can overlap when pressing multiple buttons at the same time
  • Bike tutorial might play for all players in multiplayer instead of just the one triggering it

Tactical Response Update - A look back
Greetings, Survivors!

Since we released the Tactical Response Update, you’ve given us a lot of valuable feedback.
As we mentioned in our previous letters, this update didn’t have as much new content as many fans have come to expect from us. To reiterate, this was because we’re working on a big feature that will be added to the game with our next major content release, the date of which we’re not quite ready to announce yet. Once we do, we’ll be able to talk more about the rest of this year’s plans in the form of a new roadmap, but until then it’ll need some more work.
Let’s go through the insights we’ve had and what we’re going to do from here!

Procedural Missions
Overall, Procedural Missions were received well, giving players something new to do on a regular basis.
However, the veterans among you feel that the currently available missions are too short, being completed within a couple of minutes with endgame gear.
We also saw that the missions are spawning more often than initially planned, activating once a day with the mission type on a weekly rotation instead of featuring one mission a week. We recognize that you like this cadence and would like to see more variety in it, but they are intended to be on a weekly rotation, so we’ll change this back to the original design in the future.

We plan to add more mission types to the roster later this year and when we do, we will keep this feedback in mind. This update was a way for us to add this complex new functionality to the game while keeping the first iteration slim so we can detect and identify problems with the new system more easily. Now that we’ve found some issues with how they’re scheduled and read the feedback you’ve provided, we’re ready to design even more fun and engaging missions with appropriate rewards for you to play.

Tactical Equipment Pack 2
We’re delighted to see that the reception for this new DLC has been great!
Seeing our love for these equipment items reflected in our community is a pleasure for us as Devs.
We’ve seen some reports about the Homing Turret not hitting its targets as expected and its rockets sometimes flying circles around enemies, thank you for reporting them to us!
These issues will be resolved as soon as possible.

A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one
Lastly, the Hacker skill has received a buff which slipped through the cracks when we made the Patch Notes. Hacker now has a much shorter cooldown with no limit to how many machines can be hacked at the same time. We appreciate the enthusiasm of those who have already discovered this, we see you Hacker mains!
This change was done because many players found this skill underwhelming due to its limited usage and long cooldown.
We’re planning to address other grievances players have been having with some of our skills later this year, but we need to do it in a properly balanced way, so it’ll take some time. For now, though, enjoy hacking the world!

Newly discovered Bugs
Some of you, especially the players who have reached the endgame, will surely have noticed that Shock Ammo doesn’t properly tether on Machines anymore, only on terrain.
This is very much a bug, not an intended change. It has been fixed for the next update, which we’ll have more information on soon.

Furthermore, we’ve seen reports of players receiving unexpectedly high amounts of schematic points when defeating a rival, making it impossible to unlock new schematics.
We were able to quickly identify this issue and it will be fixed in the next update. Thank you to everyone who reported this to us, you helped us a lot!

When the Tactical Response Update dropped, we also identified “The Reaper Loot bug”:
A bug where looting a Machine that had a clothing item the player already owned in its inventory using the “Loot All” keybind would prevent the loot from appearing in the player’s inventory. This was most prevalent with the Reaper’s loot, as it has a specific clothing set.
Luckily, we were able to fix this in a hotfix that went out on this Monday, along with some Crash issues on Xbox and Microsoft Store on PC! More fixes to come in the future.

These are the main feedback points we’ve gathered since we released the last update.
As we’re keeping our eyes and ears open for more, please let us know if you have any additional questions or input!

Until then, let’s get to work! We appreciate each and every one of you.

The Generation Zero Dev Team

Companion Update - Patch Notes
Greetings, Resistance Member!

Many of you have been asking for it since the beginning of time and now it’s finally happening!
Today’s update adds a Machine Companion in the form of a Runner that you can build yourself, customize, deploy at any time and even pet!
Without further ado, let’s get right into the nitty gritty of the Companion Update.

The Companion
This adorable Runner will support you in your fight against the Machines.
In the new mission “Making Friends”, which you can pick up at the Vesslan Bunker Warboard, you’ll venture out into the world to find out about the Companion.
After that, you’ll have your very own machine friend who will assist you in combat!
You can change its name, weapons, color scheme and even the voice it uses to communicate with you.

We’re so happy to fulfill this long-standing community wish. The first suggestion of a machine companion we could find was made all the way back in October 2018, during our game’s Closed Beta, by Forum user Crytical here[forum.generationzero.com]. Since then, we’ve seen many players ask us to add a friendly machine and now it’s finally happening!

A helper in combat
You can equip the Runner with three different weapons: The Machine Gun, the Shotgun and the Rocket Launcher. Depending on the weapon you give it, you’ll also have to equip it with the appropriate ammo. When the Companion gets damaged, you can repair it using Repair Kits.

It can carry it for you, but it can’t carry you
That’s right: It has an inventory you can store ammo, equipment or other weapons in!
It can carry up to a weight limit of 30, which is currently not upgradable, but it will take quite a … weight off your shoulders!

Customization!
You can change the Companion to fit your personal preferences in multiple ways:

Renaming your Companion
Your buddy is going to need a name. Give them one! You can assemble the Companion’s name by choosing from three lists, each with many options for the ultimate callsign, including formal titles.

Paint Jobs
Four paint jobs are included in the free Companion Update. The latter three have to be earned from looting. The skins are:

Voice Boxes
Modify the way your new friend communicates with you by switching out its Voice Box! Without the Companion Accessories DLC, you have access to:
  • “Modulator”: Beeps and boops its way straight into your heart.
  • “FNIX”: Makes the Companion sound like a FNIX runner for that familiar soundscape.

Light Kits
By default, your runner will have the normal machine light color scheme of a runner: White in neutral state, orange when it’s searching for enemies and red during combat. You’re not stuck with that, though! Feel free to switch it up with two more light kits:
  • “Hazard”
  • “Search”
Available now and for everyone!
We’re so happy to be able to offer this amazing new feature for you to play with. Please let us know what you think on our Social Media channels!

Companion Accessories Pack DLC
This paid DLC allows you to customize your Companion even further. We’ve made sure to pack plenty of awesome content into this one so you get enough bang - or in this case, flash - for your buck! Here’s what you can expect if you go the extra mile to support the continued development of Generation Zero:

More soon!
Thank you for your continued support of Generation Zero. Our Community has been growing for the last 4 years and we’re so fortunate to be able to make a game we love for people who love it just as much.

We’re entering a period of Summer vacations now, so our Devs can get some well deserved rest before tackling the second half of the year.

As for our plans, we’ll be working on a public roadmap for the rest of the year, as well as writing a Dev Letter about how roadmaps are made and why it takes so much effort and time to craft one.
We hope you enjoy this summer and look forward to getting back to work as soon as we can! We have many more things to show you in the future, but for now, let’s leave it at that!
Stay hydrated and keep a lookout for evil machines,
The Generation Zero Dev Team

Bug Fixes
Crafting
  • [Community Reported] Fixed a bug where the UI would display billions of schematic points earned and the actual schematic points amount would become negative. Since unfortunately there is no way to know how many points each player had before this bug appeared, those already affected by this have been set back to 0 schematic points.
Machines
  • [Community Reported] Fixed a bug where the Tank, Harvester and Wolf wouldn't use their Stomp attack.
  • [Community Reported] Fixed a bug where looting an already owned clothing item using “Loot all” would make the entire loot disappear. This was most prevalent in the Reaper’s loot and known as the “Reaper Loot bug”. Begone!
  • Minor visual fixes to the armor on the Prototype Tank
Art
  • Fixed an issue that would keep the Motorbikes’ lights from displaying correctly
Equipment and Weapons
  • [Community Reported] Fixed a bug where shock ammo didn’t create arcs when attached to a machine, lowering its damage output significantly.
  • [Community Reported] Fixed some throwables only lasting for half of their intended time after being thrown.
  • [Community Reported] Fixed the Homing Turrets projectile flying circles around certain enemies. The Homing Turret’s rockets can now rotate and adjust their trajectory faster in order to adapt to and hit moving targets.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented ammo from applying the Experimental AG4 signature fire DoT
Gameplay
  • Fixed a bug where holding down handbrake + reverse while on a motorbike resulted in forward movement and a jittering animation.
Mission
  • Weekly procedural missions no longer appear more often than intended.
Challenges
  • Fixed a bug where Archipelago missions would sometimes not count towards the "Important Public Announcement" challenge
UI
  • Preview images of the DLC Schematics from the first column didn’t match the icons. Now they do!

Known Issues
Gameplay
  • Rocket launcher projectiles hit the ground instead of an enemy
  • Companion reacts to flares and fireworks
  • Invoking 'Pet the Companion' emote while aim down sight with any weapon throughout the gameplay causes issues
  • In some instances the client's Companion might be Invisible to the host of a multiplayer game
  • Title might crash after opening player inventory while the companion is looting dead machines
  • Assignment "Destroy 5 Runners with a hunting rifle" does not track
Equipment and Weapons
  • .44 Magnus and Meusser Hunting Rifle are missing from the inventory after being picked up in the world.
Missions

  • Machines can be invisible for certain party members, but not for others
Performance
  • Tabbing out significantly increases the GPU load on PC
  • Performance loss while playing Base Assault for both clients and host

Thank you for your ongoing support! If you have any questions about this change, please ask away and we’ll respond as soon as we can and to the best of our knowledge.

Letter from the Devs - 29-09-2023
Greetings, Survivors!

This Dev Letter is going to be something slightly different from what you’re used to.
We’re trying out a new format of Dev Letters where we update you on what’s been happening in the GZ Community and, if we can, give you some insight on what we’ve been working on.
We hope you enjoy this new form of communication! Let us know what you’d like to see in these letters and we’ll do our best to include some of your suggestions in future iterations.

The Next Update
We are currently working hard on getting the next major update ready. Our community Beta Testers have already played the first version of it and given us tons of valuable feedback on how to make it even better – feedback we’re now implementing and testing further. Shout out to the 60 or so members who volunteer to help us test new builds to help us improve them before we release them into the wild!

We can’t commit to a release date for this new update yet, but we are approaching it carefully and making sure everything goes as planned.
Keep an eye on our social media channels in the upcoming weeks as we’ll be posting some teasers for what’s in this update!

GZ is still free with PS Plus!
Are you or someone you know a member of PS Plus? You might be entitled to a free copy of Generation Zero to download and keep forever!

Over 1 million new fighters have joined the Resistance against the machines since this activation with Sony was started, which we are immensely proud of and grateful for.
But the machines are relentless in their goal to defeat the humans of Östertörn, so we’ll take all the manpower we can get! If you know someone who has eyed the game before, but hasn’t checked in on it in a while, this is the perfect moment to have them give GZ a go.

Remember, you’re stronger in numbers! Outlast the Machine Threat - together.

Performance and Crash improvements
We want to reassure you that we’re closely monitoring our channels (social media comments, Discord chats, forum threads and the support site) for your bug reports.

We’ve especially noticed players having problems with getting disconnected from multiplayer lobbies, crashing, or discrepancies in what the host sees versus what their co-op partners see.
We’re already identified some of these issues and are working on fixing them. You’ll see a small amount of performance and crash fixes in the next update with much more to come in future releases.

Here are some of the issues we’re especially aware of:

Haiku Contest - win some keys for any platform!
The Generation Zero Discord server recently passed 15k members (and is now already over 20k!), so we’ve kicked off a contest that has been going on for almost two weeks.
The three best GZ related Haikus will receive keys for the GZ base game or any DLC, so if you know how to count syllables and have 5 minutes to spare, hop over there and participate for a chance to finally get your mitts on that weapon DLC you’ve been eyeing!
The contest will end on October 2nd, 2023.

Click here to join the Discord server![discord.gg] simply complete the onboarding survey and go to the #announcements channel to read everything about how the contest works.

Thank you for taking a break from combatting the machine overlords to read this letter.
We look forward to talking more about what’s ahead with you in the next one!
By the way, the Dev Letter about the process of making a road map is still under construction - just like the subject it talks about, it turned out to be longer and more complex than initially assumed, so we want to make sure to get every detail right. You can expect it in the coming weeks!

Until then, cheers!
The Generation Zero Dev Team
